Hi, I was wondering. I just opened a baggie of lecithin I recently purchased through BBs. It was in a ziploc baggie because they split it out. I think it is about 2 months old and was unopened since I got it from the order. When I opened it, there were strings- almost like cobwebs, in the top of the bag. I've never seen this before, but that last lecithin I bought was in a canister. Is this normal? or is that signs of something in my lecithing. I'm not using it yet till I figure that out....the thought would gross me out till I knew one way or the other.
Thanks so much!

It sounds like moths.
The plastic bags are not designed for long term storage. Moths (and other bugs) can eat right thru them. When we make up baggies of product here, we keep the baggies in buckets with gamma lids.
If you have other grains in baggies in your pantry (or wherever you store them), check them too. Anything in a baggie needs to go into glass jars or heavy plastic containers that have a tight seal.
It's possible that the moths got in there between the time we packaged and the time you got it. So, if you will send me a private message (click on my name on the left) with your name and address info, the name of your co-op coordinator, and when you purchased, I can either send a refund or replace the product - whichever you prefer.
Thanks,
Jim

| It's best to keep your lecithin in a jar with an airtight lid, and keep that in the fridge for storage.
